FAQs

Product questions.

What's in the jar, where it comes from, and why it's different from every other honey on the shelf.

What makes MyHoney different from supermarket honey? +

Most supermarket honey is heated to 60–70°C during processing so it flows through plastic squeeze bottles at bottling speed. This destroys the natural enzymes, removes pollen and eliminates most of the biological activity that makes honey genuinely useful. What's left is essentially a flavoured sugar syrup.

MyHoney is never heated above hive temperature. The enzymes, pollen, flavonoids and antimicrobial compounds are all intact. It's also independently lab tested every batch — something most honey brands never do. The difference is measurable, not just claimed.

Is MyHoney really 100% raw? +

Yes. Raw means it has never been heated above the natural temperature of a beehive (around 35–40°C). Our batch test results confirm this — HMF levels of 10.6 mg/kg (the EU limit is 40, heavily processed honey reads 20–35) and a diastase activity score of 18.9 (the minimum standard is 8.0). These numbers can't be faked. The lab report is published on our website.

Where does MyHoney come from? +

Our honey is single-origin wildflower honey from Moldova — one of the least industrially farmed regions in Europe. Moldova has high biodiversity, low pesticide use and a long tradition of small-scale beekeeping. Our batch tests confirm zero pesticide residues detected. Single origin means full traceability — we know exactly which producer and which batch every jar comes from.

What does "wildflower" mean? +

Wildflower honey means the bees collect nectar from multiple plant species across a season, rather than a single crop. This gives wildflower honey a broader micronutrient profile — more flavonoids, more pollen varieties, more diverse antimicrobial activity. The taste also changes subtly batch to batch depending on what was flowering. That's not a flaw — it's what real honey does.

Is MyHoney organic? +

We don't claim organic certification — and we won't until we can verify it properly. For honey to be genuinely organic, every flower within a 3–5 mile radius of the hive would need to be pesticide-free. In practice this is nearly impossible to certify at scale. Many brands claim organic on honey without being able to genuinely verify it.

Instead, we test every batch for pesticide residues directly. Batch 38 came back with zero pesticides detected. That's a real result from a real lab — more meaningful than a certification that's structurally difficult to enforce for honey.

Does MyHoney contain any allergens? +

MyHoney contains pollen, which is a natural component of raw honey. People with severe pollen allergies should consult a doctor before consuming raw honey. There are no other added allergens — the product is one ingredient: raw wildflower honey. It is gluten-free, dairy-free and suitable for vegetarians. Not suitable for vegans as it is animal-derived, and not suitable for infants under 12 months.

What is the shelf life? +

Honey has an exceptionally long shelf life when stored correctly. Our jars are dated with a best before of 2 years from production. Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight, lid sealed. Do not refrigerate — cold accelerates crystallisation. Crystallised honey has not expired; it is still fully usable.

Why glass jars and not plastic? +

Plastic squeeze bottles require honey to be heated significantly to flow at bottling speed. That heat destroys the enzymes and biological compounds that make raw honey valuable. Glass allows cold-filling — the honey goes in at hive temperature and stays raw. It's heavier and more expensive to ship. We do it because the product inside is worth protecting.

Lab testing

Can I see the lab certificate for my batch? +

Current batch certificates are available to download directly on our Lab Test Report page.

How is MyHoney tested? +

Every batch is tested by two independent accredited laboratories — Fotometric Research Laboratory (Romania, ISO/IEC 17025) and CNSAPSA (Moldova, MOLDAC accredited). Tests cover antibiotic residues across eight substance categories, pesticide residues, moisture content, HMF, diastase activity and fructose/glucose ratio. Full results are published on our Lab Report page.

Training & performance

How honey works in the body, who can use it, and how to get the most from it — for training, daily use and the whole family.

Can honey really replace pre-workout? +

For the carbohydrate and energy component of pre-workout, yes. Honey provides fast-release glucose and slower-release fructose — a natural dual-carbohydrate combination that sustains energy across a session. What it doesn't provide is caffeine. Many customers combine MyHoney with a black coffee pre-session and find the combination superior to any supplement they've used — the caffeine provides mental sharpness, the honey provides the physical substrate. No jitters, no crash.

When should I take it before training? +

15–20 minutes before your session. Take it in a warm drink — coffee, green tea or warm water — to speed absorption. If you take it in hot liquid, let the drink cool slightly first (90 seconds off the boil) as temperatures above 60°C begin to degrade enzyme activity.

Can I use it mid-workout? +

Yes — for sessions over 75 minutes or high-intensity work where energy drops, a teaspoon mid-session maintains blood glucose without a spike. A full tablespoon isn't necessary mid-session; a small amount is enough to keep going without causing a digestive burden during training.

Does it help with recovery? +

The fructose in honey is particularly effective at restoring liver glycogen after training. Taking a tablespoon within 30 minutes of finishing — directly or stirred into a protein shake — supports glycogen restoration. Combining a carbohydrate source with protein post-session is a well-established recovery approach, and honey is one of the cleanest options for it.

Is MyHoney better than energy gels? +

For most gym training, yes. Energy gels are designed for endurance athletes who need rapid glucose mid-race. MyHoney gives you both fast and slow-release carbohydrates plus the additional enzyme and antimicrobial compounds present in raw honey. For a 45–90 minute gym session, it's a more complete option at a fraction of the cost.

Daily use & general health

Can I use MyHoney if I'm not training? +

Absolutely. A teaspoon a day — in warm water, tea, on toast, in porridge — contributes natural antimicrobial activity, enzyme support and steady energy regardless of whether you're training. The biological value of the honey is present in every spoonful, not just in a training context.

Is it safe for children? +

Safe for children over 12 months. Not suitable for infants under 12 months due to the risk of infant botulism — this applies to all honey, raw or processed. For children over one year, a teaspoon a day is a nutritious, natural alternative to refined sugar. On toast, in porridge or stirred into warm milk.

Is MyHoney suitable for diabetics? +

We recommend anyone with diabetes or blood sugar concerns consults their GP or dietitian before adding honey to their diet. While honey has a lower glycaemic index than refined sugar, it is still a sugar-rich food and affects blood glucose. This is a medical question and we won't give medical advice on it — please speak to a professional.

Can I use MyHoney if I'm pregnant? +

Raw honey is generally considered safe during pregnancy for healthy adults, but we always recommend checking with your midwife or GP if you have any specific concerns. The main contraindication for honey is for infants under 12 months — not for adults. Individual medical circumstances vary and professional advice should always take precedence.

Does MyHoney help with immunity? +

Raw honey contains hydrogen peroxide produced through natural enzyme activity, combined with low water content and an acidic pH — well-documented antimicrobial properties. UK food law doesn't permit specific health claims beyond what's regulated, so we won't overstate this. What we can say is these compounds are real, measurable, and present in every batch we test.

The honey itself

Why has my honey crystallised? +

Crystallisation is a sign of quality. Raw honey crystallises naturally because nothing has been removed or heated out of it. Supermarket honey stays liquid because it's been heat-processed — a process that destroys quality to extend shelf appearance. The nutritional value of crystallised honey is identical to liquid honey. To soften it, sit the jar in warm (not hot) water for a few minutes. Never microwave it.

Why does my honey look or taste different batch to batch? +

Because it's real. Wildflower honey reflects what was flowering when the bees were foraging — colour, consistency and flavour vary with the season. This is entirely normal and exactly what you'd expect from a genuine single-origin product. Uniform honey is processed honey.

How should I store MyHoney? +

Room temperature, away from direct sunlight, lid sealed. Do not refrigerate. Do not store near a heat source. A kitchen cupboard away from the oven is ideal.
